Tartar or retainer cement?

I was flossing by my permanent retainer on my mandibular incisors. I then felt something chip off, and it looked like a chip of my tooth. I originally thought it was a piece of the cement from my retainer, but I don't know? Is it? I was looking online, and tartar often chips and feels like the same. Should I plan a visit with my orthodontist?
