How do I get a new job when my boss is a bully?

I am a teacher, and TL;DR - I have had enough of my principal. I have taught there for several years, and I hit my breaking point today. There is a clique of teachers who are truly untouchable. They blame others for their mistakes, and the principal takes their word for it without even asking you. If this sounds too childish to happen among adults, I know what you mean. I am one of the younger teachers at my school - all of this crap happens with teachers much older than me. They principal also hired a family member as a teacher at the school, and she is allowed to do and say whatever she wants - this teacher is truly the worst and blames everyone else for the drama SHE causes! This truly makes everyone so uncomfortable, but there is nothing you can say without getting yelled at. For the record, our district allows the hiring of family members (except of the superintendent). I have always done everything random extra task that was asked of me (and there were many), but I never even get a "thank you." I've gotten grants to improve my classroom in a mostly impoverished school, and didn't get a "good job." I don't need praise, but it just goes to show that teachers who go above and beyond without being asked are not even being acknowledged. I am just sick of the unprofessional behavior that is allowed to continue and the fact that great teachers are getting pushed around by a bunch of mean people who have no business working with other humans. The emotional/mental toll is not worth the $960 I am getting every two weeks. I could literally go on about this and all of the awful things my boss has done over the last few years, but basically, I just want to leave SO badly, but I'm afraid I can't get a job without their recommendation. Contrary to the less than positive things i have to say about them, my boss REALLY likes me, but I'm afraid the tables would turn if I were to tell them I was leaving. Becoming a teacher was one of the best choices I've made, as it is so rewarding for me (ENFJ, here!). However, this job was among the worst. Feeling trapped and scared... Any advice or even words of encouragement would be appreciated :(
