Jeans Waist is Too Big. Help!!

I bought a pair of APC Petit New Standards a couple months back at a size 31 which I usually wear. I realized after buying them that a 31 in raw APC's is actually a 33 in their measurements. Is it okay to take in the waist of a pair of jeans two inches? I heard that anything more than an inch and a half is too much. Also I can't just wear a belt because when I do the excess denim bunches up at the crotch. Any solutions?
