When were view lean and Barneys getting upset about you shooting at a target too close to them to a scientist?

In the original 1998 version I remember the view tilting whenever you strafed left or right. Also Barneys would get angry and attack you not only when you shot a friendly NPC but also if you shot and barely missed them.
