It Follows is the best horror movie ever made. There I said it. I've seen it multiple times and it never fails to get me. More inside.
So everyone knows that the subtle nuances are as important if not more important than any monster or entity within a horror flick. That's what makes It Follows so great. There's so many abnormal things about it and without even realizing (until later viewings) it makes you very uncomfortable.
For example the film has a very very strange time setting. You see old school cars, old school decor, old school theaters, and yet there's a chick constantly reading her little hand held e-book that looks like something out of Star Trek. Additionally there are a few modern looking cars tossed in the midst of all the retroness.
Another thing that I've realized and now read more into is the fact that the main character, Jay, lost her father and he is one of the last manifestations of "it" during the pool scene. In that scene we hear Jays little sister asking what "it" looks like and Jay replies "I don't want you to know" or something like that. She doesn't want her sister to be hurt. You can also see family photos in Jays house with a man who looks a lot like the same man in the pool scene. They never directly explain anything like this, but I think it's an interesting take.
There is so much more to that movie and it's honestly one of my very favorite films. The soundtrack alone is enough to make my heart rate burst through the roof. If you haven't seen it yet I highly encourage you to give it a go. Preferably at night with all the lights turned off ;)
Sorry for the randomness but I just got done watching it for the umpteenth time and wanted to share some thoughts. Thanks for reading.
Here's hoping for a sequel of some kind.
