Sam came for his 8 heart event on a festival. Help?

Sam showed up to tell me about his 8-heart gig on the morning of the fishing festival. In my first run-through of the day, I went to the festival, figuring maybe I could go complete the event after the festival. No such luck; the event wouldn't trigger at 10 PM. So, I reloaded and went to the event first, hoping I could go to the festival afterward. Nope, festival won't activate at 4 PM.

Well, crap. Do I have to choose between the event or the festival, or will the rest of the event trigger tomorrow?
