Skill Swap: Hilarious AND Effective!
Just a short post on Skill Swap, and why I think it's great in VGC16 and Doubles.
Skill Swap is something you see mentioned in sets for support Pokemon (such as Cresselia), but it feels like more of an afterthought than anything^1, as opposed to speed control moves (Icy Wind, Tailwind, Trick Room, Paralysis moves, etc.) which get heavy use. As such I feel like it isn't used as often as it possibly could be (which is good for me, because I use it heavily).
But it's a great move, it can easily shut down megas (I'm looking at you especially, M-Mawile and M-Kangaskhan). It can reset weather (this video explains mechanics: basically whatever ability is skill swapped on to the user applies first).
Skill swap shenanigans can be hilarious.
Have you ever seen a Huge Power or Parental Bond P-Groudon in the sun? It hits hard.
You know that 2x weakness P-Groudon has to Ground moves? Cresselia has Levitate. You can reset the weather and remove its only weakness in one move.
Or what about Moody? Does Smeargle annoy you when it gets +Accuracy/-Attack boosts? Give it to your Cresselia instead, which means your opponent starts heavily considering a switch.
^1 By an "afterthought" I mean that I rarely see opponents using it against me in Battle Spot, though I'm still relatively low on the ladder
EDIT: Another great use is on Gengar, as you can Skill Swap things with the -ilate ability (Aerilate, Pixilate), especially M-Salamence. M-Salamence typically runs things like Double Edge and Hyper Voice, so keeping them as Normal-type moves gives a lot of security to Gengar.
