How does a beginner start making music?

I don't really understand how this works.

Right now I do have this app called Score Creator, it just has me put my notes for sheet music and then it plays it as a midi, I think? Is there more apps like that? I like it, it looks like sheet music, I put in the notes I want it to play and then it plays it.
