Call me a product of my generation, but this email solicitation triggered me. OR perhaps my college classmates skewed my perspective of what it means to be a person with a disability...
Here is the email, emphasis is mine:
I started [REDACTED] (link redacted) because I wanted to solve the unemployment challenges faced by millions of blind/ disabled/vets/vet spouses etc. 50 million people, disabled & jobless in the USA is unacceptable. We created [REDACTED] ground up to re-skill, create work ex and network with businesses to create contemporary employment. We succeeded! What we did is we re-skilled 150+ blind/disabled people so they can work for small businesses part-time on projects, who need a lot of resources to generate revenue, but have little much money to spend. Our guys needed opportunities and meaningful ones and are happy to work on them to create new skills and work-ex. A perfect demand-supply. We worked with over 70+ businesses starting from recruitment companies, to cloud companies to supply chain research to companies in Harvard University etc (link redacted). I took no donation/handout etc. But we now have a model where millions of unemployed can help millions of businesses. A synergy! And you know how hard small and medium businesses have to struggle today against automation and corporates! We need speed. More hands!
Most people are not born blind/disabled. Sadly many become blind due to disease and other events. It takes their professional life away. Billions of dollars are spent, yet 80 to 95% of the disabled people have no hope, no opportunities, no income. A workforce dev platform, aligned with the industry really does not exist. [REDACTED] is the only one thats contemporary.
My ask is to have to have a conversation with you based on the below as the whole model is cumbersome :
-
First - because I am very well aligned with the industry, I see the industry shaping up differently! Sourcing is a highly research driven and serial process. Now imagine that whole sourcing activity that truly slows down the speed of recruiting, distributed to say 20 blind/disabled people at [REDACTED] working together. They use screen readers that reads out web pages at 400 to 500 words per minute. Everyone does a little bit and the total effect is massive when working together. Thus immediate business value. No need to send sourcing out to other companies/ countries. It can be done in the USA, just by re-skilling disabled people. It creates new jobs, solves unemployment and a brighter day for those who need it.
-
Second - Every organization like yours spend some money on CSR. Typically, CSR is a liability as a company gets no $ advantage out of money spent ( but it is also needed, so don’t get me wrong). Think of this now:
a. Provide that money to us, we invest 100% of it on training our folks on recruiting/sourcing/ social media research/virtual assistantship/ outreach etc. The processes you need. b. Imagine all your employees each taking 60 minute of their time every month, sharing their skills and knowledge with our folks via phone lines/bridge attended by the disabled globally. It is flexible, no need to travel, can be prearranged in days, no cost etc and based on knowledge. Imagine the impact of the knowledge on our folks if we can do so. Your employees can now see the impact, experience it and disabled people learn, they go and become sourcers/ virtual assistants for your employees and speed up the recruitment process so they can close deals faster. Everyone gains in that process. c. This connected process of sharing knowledge, uplifting lives and then transforming people to help them close your deals, turns your money and CSR strategy to an asset! **The work they do can be just a paid internship.** d. **60% of our organization are women. They would love to be empowered. They are dreamers!** -
Third - Imagine the press that you will get by sharing knowledge and a little $CSR to help our disabled people to help you. Creating employment, empowering women and changing the lives of disabled people? Priceless! Once empowered, they teach other disabled people ( each one - teach one model) and help solve unemployment. It is a movement!
Sorry, if I confused you.
Appreciate a call to discuss further. Not looking for a handout. If it works great! If it doesn’t, it still is great!
tl; dr: Give us money, we can fix the US unemployment problem by training people with disabilities to do mindless hive-work.
