Anyone ever gotten a bridesmaid gift well after the wedding?

Okay here is the thing. I have a maid of honour and that's it.

She's in the Navy and a week after the ceremony, she's heading out to literally the other side of the country for 4 months of training. On top of that, she's got to pack up her entire apartment and put it into storage, because she's moving when she gets back in the fall, and it didn't make sense to pay the rent for time that she's going to be on a ship.

AAAAND she's a super-wellmeaning VERY disorganized person, so she's been meaning to pay me back for her dress for almost a year now, and she just keeps forgetting. I don't really mind that; she will at some point get around to it, but it's kind of cut into my budget.

So I was wondering how incredibly uncool of me it would be to put off picking up her bridesmaid gift until after she gets back from training (that's 4 months after the wedding, folks). First for selfish reasons; without recouping the cost of her dress, which she agreed to buy, I have to put her gift on credit (which is fine, but I try to avoid it). And also because she can't bring a gift on ship with her, so her options are pack her gift in storage, or leave it with our Mom, so there is nothing outside of perhaps Canadian Forces issue socks that I could get her that wouldn't be more of a pain than a gift.

Thoughts? Am I being awesomely practical, or coldhearted? I struggle with that balance.
