Missing African Dwarf Frog. Possibly eaten?

Hi all,

Looking for tips as to what the hell happened to my frog. Stories of your own escape artists are welcome.

Since no one likes a long post I have two questions up top, and more info in the rest if you care to know the background of my predicament.

  1. How far can they go outside of water? I mean, they can survive about 20 minutes out of water, but how far can they leap and bound? (I looked all over the bloody room for his body)

  2. Is it possible it died and the other frogs ate him? I doubt the betta would've eat him, or all of him. He likes to nip, but I feel like there'd be some frog body left over. (divided tank, betta is on one side, frogs on the other, but there have been moments where I'd find a frog chillin' on the betta side. All hides and plants removed from entire tank in his search, gravel vacuumed as well). Could the frogs have eaten their dead friend? One friend of mine said hers ate each other. Yes they were definitely african dwarf frogs. Maybe this is why I couldn't find him.

So, tank logistics: They are in a five gallon heated and filter divided tank, one betta, three frogs. Filter is on the betta side. Divider and betta added only a few days ago. Learned right quick they didn't get along and I had that divider ready, but took some finagling to keep the frogs from being surprisingly smart and wiggly and getting around it/over it. There was a gap by the filter. I filled it with a small piece of sponge. Did the trick.

Everyone seemed healthy yesterday. I got a picture of all four of them looking at each other through the divider last night. I plugged any questionable sneak out holes before I went to bed, though I've had my frogs for a month and a half and they never tried to jump ship. Though they were hella determined to get to the other side of that divider for some reason.

Ammonia levels tested this morning and were fine. I don't have the kits for the other levels. There are 4 marimo moss balls in there, and silk plants. All species eat ravenously. Filter seemed to stress my frogs initially, but they have calmed down a lot and do their burbling thing. Hope that covers it, thanks for you help with the detective work!
