Slow Movement?

New to the Souls series, I just started DS1. I just bought the chain mail armor set from the merchant in the Undead Burg, and It now looks like I'm moving with a limp when I equip it. I'm barely even using half of my equip load, and I'm still moving slow. Is this supposed to happen?
