Mardu Midrange featuring Delve.
I have been slowly building mardu for modern. I believe the pieces have come together over the past few blocks to finally make it worth some brewing. I will admit the 2 drop spot hurts, but I am hopeful that it will be filled someday. So, what I have been thinking about lately is how the addition of new cards have changed the wedge, in particular painful truths. With painful truths, Bob may no longer be necessary, and with Bob no longer necessary we can have a higher curve. This brings me to the delve creatures: Gurmag Angler, and a card I never even knew existed until a few months ago: Tombstalker. Tombstalker rarely comes up in discussion because the decks running Angler (Grixis) can't be worried about hitting the double black, however mardu is already focusing on the double black for Liliana and Kalitas. Here is a brew I have come up with. Please give me your thoughts. Thanks.
Creatures
4x Tidehollow Sculler (Maybe YP?)
2x Brimaz
2x Kalitas
3x Gurmag Angler or Tombstalker or some 2/1 split
Planeswalkers
2x Liliana of the Veil
Spells
4x lightning bolt
3x Inquisition of Kozelik
2x Thoughtseize
4x Lingering Souls
3x Path to Exile
1x Terminate
3x Lightning Helix
2x Kolaghan's Command
2x Painful Truths
Lands
4x Marsh Flats
2x Bloodstained Mire
2x Arid Mesa
3x Blackcleave Cliffs
3x Shambling Vents
2x Sacred Foundry
2x Godless Shrine
2x Blood Crypt
1x Swamp
1x Plains
1x Mountain
We focus on B/W with a splash of red. I have considered Pia and Kiran, but Kalitas seems better. Also fulminator may be better than Brimaz, but with the Eye ban I think I may give the old Cat a whirl. If delve in Mardu proves to be a good idea, then perhaps we could even build around it a little more with cards like faithless looting, etc. Thanks for the input all!
