Tips for Versus?

I've been playing the ps4 beta for a few days and I just can't get the hang of the versus multiplayer. I've tried different characters but it's just not happening. I'm averaging maybe 2 kills a game and getting more deaths than I'm willing to mention. Any tips on how I can work on getting the hang of it?
