Feeling guilty

I'm such an idiot. My 2 month old was sleeping so I set him on a chair and walked away (so stupid). He ended up falling off and bumping his head and I feel HORRIBLE. Could've been so easily prevented and I feel like I failed my son already at only 2mths old :(

He cried for about a minute while I checked him out, then I nursed him and he calmed down. I called the pediatrician and he asked how long he cried for and how far he fell which was about 1.5ft onto carpet, but I think he bumped his head on an end table on the way down. He said it wasn't that far of a fall but because there was a bump and he's unable to talk at this age, it's probably a good idea to take him to the ER. He said they might want to give him a scan or they might just say keep an eye on it and send us home.

We headed over to the ER and my boyfriend was PISSED at me for being so careless. Rightfully so but I already felt horrible about it. He said he wasn't mad at me but disappointed in me...ugh. Me too boyfriend, me too.

We got to the ER and it was PACKED. Literally over 50 kids plus their parents and they all looked so sick. There were signs posted everywhere warning of a flu outbreak and after 10mins I just had to get out of there.

I know the pediatrician wanted us to go, but I just felt like the risk of him catching the flu was WAY to high (it was well over an hour wait according to a parent we asked).

I was checking him over before we left to go to the hospital and he seemed fine, was laughing and eating, peeing and alert. The bump was going down and at this point (it's currently about 5hrs later) is pretty much gone. I figured I'd just keep my eye on him tonight and I'm going to wake him up every 2 hours to be safe.

He has an appointment to get his 2mth shots at 9am tomorrow anyways, so if the pediatrician thinks we need to head back over after checking him out we obviously will. I just hope he isn't going to be mad that we left before being seen at the ER. I honestly used my best judgement on that and felt him getting sick would be worse than the bump on the head.

What would you have done?
