I think my child has something like ADHD, but his Dr and teachers think otherwise. Am I crazy or should fight for him to get help?

My son is very smart. He's in 3rd grade and gets all A's and never really needs to study. I test him on his homework and he knows every answer. It's like he just absorbs the information. We still have a 30 min study rule per subject.

He reads and a 8th grade level and is able to write a report with a introduction, body and conclusion. He knows what a thesis statement is.

He's excellent at video games and puzzles. He plays WoW ( no more then 2 hours a day on weekends only) and in 1 year he's gotten to level 60.

He's so smart and I'm so proud, but he has 3 issues that are getting worse and he's now getting in trouble at school.

1st- he can not sit still. He's constantly jumping, fidgeting, moving, clapping-you name it. He doesn't use a chair, when he's gaming, studying or just talking to us he HAS to be standing or moving. Sometimes he can't even look me in the eye. When I get firm and say he NEEDS to stop for a moment and look me in the eye he has a hard time answering questions, as he looks like he's trying not to fidget.

His handwriting is horrible. It's at kindergarten level. We've done exersizes, handwriting books, classes and tutoring. Nothing works. We've let it go for now. It was becoming too hard a battle and he was getting really distressed about it.

He can not tie a knot or bow to save his life. Something about it is too hard for him. It's like he just can't understand what he needs to do even after reverse chaining and hand over hand instruction. Again,we just let it go and just buy hims vans. We figured maybe it's like snapping and he'll just understand one day.

His memory. It's very bad. We have signs and things written down everywhere to help him remember. He has a place for everything and I have to remind him everyday to leave it right where it is. His stuff, my stuff, his drinks, his toothbrush, his clothes, his shoes, his stuffed animal he sleeps with-it's like he has no short term memory.

His mother suffers from Bipolar disorder, so we're wondering if he's more likely to have ADHD, but his Dr and his teacher say he's a great student, he only fidgets in his desk and isn't running around the room uncontrollably and he has zero behavior issues. Those are a necessity for ADHD.

My wife is 100% believer that mental illness needs to be managed so people can be the best they can be and is religious about her Dr appointments and her meds. We're scared this might effect him more as he grows older and we don't know how to help him

is this just something that boys go through? Is it behavioral? Should we be more strict? We just want whats best for him. We don't mind him jumping around all the time and him not being able to tie his shoes and his forgetfulness. It's something we've come to accept and figured was just a part of his personality. After all the work and punishments and teaching he still wasn't able to do it. We could tell he was working so hard, so we let it go.

But if this is something that could get worse if not treated and could effect his success, then we want to help him and we'll fight to help him. We just don't know if we're seeing something that isn't there.
