Just won $1,000 prize to upgrade my gaming PC....need help from buildapcforme!
Won contest at work for $1,000 shopping spree for any ONE online retailer....so I've decided to GUT my 2009 battle station. The only catch is I have to spend all prize money at ONE website (amazon, newegg, etc). There's no doubt I need new CPU/Cooler/Mobo/RAM. But need advice on keeping or upgrading my GPU/PSU/Case. Built rigs a while back, but don't follow current hardware trends and look to you guys for advice/info!
What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
- Gaming (GTAV, Dark Souls3, CS:GO, Rocket League, FO4, FO:NV, etc), MS Office
What is your maximum budget?
- $1,000 (they will pay taxes/shipping....but must be though ONE e-retailer)
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
- Next Week
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)
- Need CPU/Cooler/MOBO/RAM. Maybe GPU/PSU, see below for more info
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
- USA
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
- GIGABYTE GV-R928XOC 3GB, Corsair CMPSU-750TX, AZZA Fantom 900 Gaming Tower Case, dual 1080p monitors, using all my current peripherals and SSD & HDD
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
- I'm seriously considering buying another 280X for CrossFire, or should I buy a new GPU? Trying to get the most bang out of my buck since I just upgraded my GPU last year.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
- My current case is fine (see model above) but it gets damn crowded with just the one 280x and the non-modular PSU. Thoughts on upgrading?
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
- I am still running Win7 Home Premium, can I re-use license since I'm switching out my motherboard? It just occurred this may be an issue.
