Is Gear Score meaningless or is it me?

I can make my gear score 195, but it absolutely kills my stats. Instead I'm at 181, but much more efficient than I would be at 195. Gear Score is so overrated, and oftentimes I find high ends that are much better than my gear set items. I get 240 gear score items with 300 less armor, and 20k less DPS, but it's somehow better because it raises a stat that doesn't even affect my actual power. Am I doing something wrong? Or is this just me...?
