An Idiot's Guide to Ultimate Chadarnook - The Extremely Belated Edition v2
A young artist from Thamasa joins a quest to defeat the Gestahlian Empire and later, the God of Magic himself…
Welcome to the 19th edition of an Idiot’s Guide :D
We’ll be tackling the Relm event’s Ultimate boss, Chadarnook, a fiend who possessed Relm’s painting of the Esper Lakshmi, who bears a resemblance to another evil possessing demon...
...oh and yes, this is how I’ll be starting off the Idiot’s Guides now. I do hope this looks a tad bit more professional :)
...and one more. Sorry for being quite a bit late. Medical school (the slayer of free time) has been really tough on me lately and I’m applying for volunteer program as well and the combined conglomeration just ruins the chances I had of finishing the guide on time. Also, funny story listed below in the comments. Sorry for the inconvenience :/
Stat Overview
[Note]: Chadarnook has two forms which it changes frequently depending on certain aspects of the battle, which I will include in the Movepool section of the guide.

Target Score:
-
Exploit Chadarnook’s Goddess form’s weakness to Holy.
-
Reduce Chadarnook’s Magic.
-
Defeat Chadarnook before it uses Poltergeist three times.
[Note]: This marks the beginning of target scores which tell you to reduce a specific stat of an enemy. You can use anything that reduces that particular stat, including Full Break and SBs. A lot more flexible than usual; thanks DeNA!
Movepool:
Chadarnook starts off in its Goddess form. In order to switch Chadarnook to its Demon form, you must hit it with a Holy elemental attack. Alternatively, you can wait for Chadarnook - Goddess to use Entice (used every three turns), which she follows up by switching to her Demon form.
Chadarnook’s Demon form is initially immune to physical attacks. You can eliminate this immunity by hitting Chadarnook with a Holy magical attack. It will never regain its immunity to physical attacks afterwards. In addition, every time Chadarnook - Demon uses up 5 turns, it reverts back to Goddess form. After Chadarnook has lost 50% HP, it switches to the Demon form and never reverts back. It also gains access to its “Weak” movepool at 50%.
I’d like to note that Chadarnook has an odd habit of switching forms every so often and likes to flash the party. Why am I getting Déjà vu…?
Chadarnook - Goddess:
-
Attack: Deals one physical attack to one target. Don’t know what to really say, besides the obvious fact that a naked woman in a picture (who is actually a demon, mind you) is slapping you in the face for pitiful damage. Yup, nothing to say...
-
Entice: Confuse all targets. Only used every three turns and immediately switches to the Demon form afterwards. Even though this is a perfectly capable way to have Chadarnook switch forms, it’s such a awful way to do so. Entice will leave the party very vulnerable to the Demon form’s onslaught of magical attacks, which do not snap characters out of confusion (Pokemon reference not intended). So yeah, avoid whenever possible. Also occurs as a counter to non-holy attacks.
-
Lullaby: Sleep all targets. Can be messy. Try to keep Chadarnook out of her Goddess form as long as possible. Also occurs as a counter to non-holy attacks.
Chadarnook - Demon [Normal]:
-
Attack. Deals one or four physical hits to random targets. You should be fine.
-
Thundara: Deals lightning magical damage to one target. Only used as an occasional counter to Black Magic.
-
Thundaga: Deals heavy lightning magical damage to all targets. This one can actually hurt quite a bit. Magic Mitigation is MVP here. Also note that Lightning resist items (I wonder if anyone is still mad about Waifu Wars) are wonderful for this battle.
-
Flash Rain: Deals heavy non-elemental NAT magical damage to all targets. One of his most commonly used attacks. You should be fine with good Magic Mitigation, though.
Chadarnook - Demon [Weak]:
-
Retains same moves as Normal form, but Attack no longer exists in a four hit version.
-
Thundaja: Deals massive lightning magical damage to one target. This hurts a LOT. Thunder mitigation is good, once again.
-
Poltergeist: Deals heavy AoE lightning magical damage to all targets, and Saps targets. Used every 5 turns and also the first turn Chadarnook - Demon uses past 50% HP.
Analysis:
Chadarnook (as I have mentioned before already) is very much like Rubicante. After a certain amount of turns, it switches to different form, with one form being much more favorable than the other. But Chadarnook, however, is much easier than Rubicante. For one, Chadarnook switches to its Goddess form every 5 turns, while Rubicante switched to his annoying Defense phase every 3 turns. Furthermore, Chadarnook totally abandons its Goddess gimmick after 50% HP, making the battle much less annoying.
Teambuilding
RW selection:
Basic RW selection.
SG=SS2>Hastega>Medicas
Abilities:
Any attack that is holy elemental and reduces enemy MAG is required for this battle (not to mention super useful). For the holy elemental attack, I highly recommend bringing one that is NOT physical (to eliminate Chadarnook’s immunity to Physical attacks). Past that, any standard things such as Mitigation is useful.
Due to note that any elemental attacks that inflict an element other than Holy and Fire is completely useless for more than 50% of the battle, and I highly advise not bringing them.
RMs:
Once again, very standard. Remember to be careful of DEF/RES lowering RMs due to, well, it lowering your defenses or resistance :P
Due note that certain RMs can make the default attack to become Holy elemental, such as WoL’s RM2 and Selphie’s RM2, allowing you to forgo a Holy-elemental ability.
Remember to remove your "ability spring" RMs (Concentration, Moon's Grace etc.). They literally do nothing in battles with one level besides wasting a RM slot on your characters.
Recommended Team:
Pretty much any team is good here. It just depends on the abilities and relics you have. If you can defeat them easier (and complete the target scores), choose that team.
Do note that this starts the rise of super high increases in RES for Ultimate (and soon, Ultimate+ bosses). So mages begin to become eternally weaker than physical characters for the most part for a long time.
Basic Battle Strategies:
I highly recommend bringing 2 Holy elemental attacks for the battle. First, apply mitigation as usual. Then, strike Chadarnook with a Holy elemental attack. Note that if you brought a physical and a magical Holy attack, you should strike Chadarnook - Goddess using the physical one (for the first attack, anyways). Then, you can use your magical Holy attack and remove Chadarnook - Demon’s immunity to physical attacks right off the bat. Then, bring out your handy dandy notebook (or piece of paper or anything you can write on) and count Chadarnook - Demon’s turns. Remember that after its fifth turn, it reverts back to the annoying Goddess form. For the second half of the battle, it is basically a DPS rush to kill Chadarnook before it overwhelms you with either AoE magic or 3 Poltergeists.
Good luck! がんばろう! :D
Difficulty Rating:
[1 being the easiest, 10 being the hardest]
1 | 1.5 | 2 | 2.5 | 3 | 3.5 | 4 | 4.5 | 5 | 5.5 | 6 | 6.5 | 7 | 7.5 | 8 | 8.5 | 9 | 9.5 | 10
Chadarnook is overly fragile and the battle’s gimmick disperses halfway through the battle. However, mage teams will have a hard time to do Chadarnook’s Demon form absorbing all but Fire and Holy elemental attacks (Ja elemental attacks being the primary bulk of magic damage). Furthermore, some FFRKers may have trouble killing Chadarnook before it uses Poltergeist 3 times.
Final Thoughts:
Fun and easy battle for a relatively plentiful realm. Honestly, it can be considered less annoying that the Elite Story Dungeon variation due to being able to knock Chadarnook out of its Goddess form with ease.
Vincent event approaches…. Are you ready for U+ bosses?
I would like to thank u/fattybomchacha for all the information on Chadarnook’s stats and movepool! Be sure to check kongbakpao's website for guides on all events! :D
