I feel like Chuck is being unfairly maligned [](/s"for lying to Jimmy about their mother's dying words")
Overall the "fuck Chuck" sentiment seems to be a retread of what happened with Skylar - an overreaction to an authority-figure character who acts as a foil to the protagonist. A large part of this seems to focus on Chuck not telling Jimmy that his mother's last words were "Jimmy... Jimmy", with the idea that Chuck did this purely out of jealousy; while I think this is some part of it and Chuck is of course an incredibly proud man, I think there's more to it.
Imagine if you were in Jimmy's situation, and had just left the building for a few minutes to get some food while a family member was dying, presuming that there would be no change in her condition on your return. You return, and she has died. What would you prefer to hear about her final moments:
- That she died in her sleep, peacefully and without event
or 2) That, in her last moments, she regained consciousness, called out to you - twice - and you weren't there to be with her
The first scenario is sad because you couldn't be with her in her last moments. The second is torturous. Just imagine the guilt. And imagine being in Chuck's situation and having to decide whether to tell a truth that could haunt someone for years, or tell a white lie that allows your brother to sleep well at night.
Chuck is a fascinatingly complex character, and his pride will be his downfall. The Breaking Bad universe is governed by the ideas behind Shakespearean tragedy - any flaw will lead to your undoing if you allow it to rule you. But to say that he doesn't love his brother - or, at least, that in that moment he was only thinking of himself - is to do the writers a severe disservice.

I agree with both options being possible, but I can't help but pick jealousy as Chuck's motivation. Fuck Chuck.
We've seen Chuck's selfishness on display enough for me to decide that he wasn't protecting Jimmy as in scenario 2.
Rather than protecting Jimmy, he resents Jimmy for not being there when their mother's last words were calling out for him, it was literally her last dying wish, and Jimmy wasn't there. Chuck sees it as Jimmy inadvertently fucking over their parents one last time. To another degree I think Chuck is also blaming himself, because he was right, if he had tried a bit harder to keep Jimmy there, her last wish wouldn't have gone unfulfilled.
I think it falls in line with every other interaction between Chuck and Jimmy we've seen so far, Chuck is always right from a technical standpoint, whether or not he is wrong from a moral standpoint. Its what makes a good lawyer, and also what makes Chuck such an interesting character. but fuck that guy
I think you're being very charitable to Chuck. I think he was extremely pissed his mother wanted Jimmy there and not him.
amen!

Chuck is technically correct. The best kind of correct.
Yup, it's jealousy, pride, and sadness for not being acknowledged by his mother. All perfectly reasonable emotions in this context I feel, don't hate on him for that!
None of that is Jimmy's fault. If Chuck's motivation was that Jimmy is scum, then fine. But we know that isn't the case.
