First trail run ever! Also, the cops got called.
So I'm just coming back from 2 weeks off trying to fix my knees that have always hurt to varying degrees. Tuesday was my first run. I was super hopeful that they would feel way better and I could be done with that chapter of my life. Not so much. Not terrible, but bad enough to make me seriously consider taking an extended break. Because of that, I'm kind of in a "whatever, F it" mood. So I go out for a run today in my new shoes thinking maybe they'll help, but worst case I probably have to stop running for a while, so let's dive in with both feet. I also decide to run in a place I've never run before because why not. Very early in my run I come across a local place that has trails people talk about a lot and so I figure why the hell not and veer off road for the very first time. It's a trail system that borders a local art museum so it's not like I'm out in the bush where I need to be concerned about being stranded or other safety relatives issues. Hope I don't feel the need to return these new shoes because they're certainly gonna get dirty. The trail was awesome. Trees and squirrels and bits are way way better than speeding trucks and roadkill. My knees feel good, my shoes feel good. Everything is great. I have no idea where I am, but between my phone and my garmin I know I'll be able to make it where I need to go. At some point the trail turns into this path that runs alongside a house. Weird. There's another path right here so I hop on and hat takes me to more houses. So I turn around again to make my way back the way I came and there's a dude who looks like he works for the city riding a lawnmower so I stop to ask him the best way to get to where I need to go. He says hand on I gotta make a call. Ok...who do you have a make a call to? The cops! No idea, but I apparently managed to work my way into some sort of restricted area51 type place. Luckily the cops told him to let me go. I pulled up my GPS data to show him how I got to where I was. He's convinced I went through some sort of gate who posted warnings, but I have no recollection of such things. Oh well. Trail running is awesome. Hopefully the long arm of the law doesn't grab me next time I'm out there.
ETA: he told me to not tell anyone. I'm trusting you guys...
