Funky Funeral
"I must live before I die,"
These words stuck inside my head,
Staring down at the dull coffin...
Staring up so unamused,
Time ticking away in step -
as the preacher sings them blues.
Left, right, sit those in attendance,
Grimly pale, rigid in form..
I forget this is a funeral...
So, I sniffle, drop a sigh
Settle for a somber face
Now I look more commonplace.
A mindnumbing hour later,
Shuffling loudly in my seat,
At least if I were caffeinated,
Thrill junkie but I'm here fixated
Commanding a view of a corpse in costume -
what's the point in hanging out posthume?
Countdown, ten more seconds to go
They bow their heads,
And the "amens" flow
I sidestep, make my way to the door
Jump in the car, hit the pedal to the floor
