Chess of Life
I like to say people are playing checkers, while I'm playing chess.
But I'm not as the valiant King, protected by his loyal servants.
Not as the Bishop, crossing in paths of destruction.
Not as the fearless Knight, strategically manipulating his opponents to demise.
Nor as the Rook, moving in 4 directions to conquer those in his path.
I'm the pawn. The first to live a fate almost predetermined. The first to come face to face with enemies, but cannot defeat. The first to be disposed as enemies swarm to take control. The first to realise it's over.
And in that off chance that the pawn makes it to the other side, he is usually too late to be glorious. He was only a distraction for the others to finish, only to go back to what he was -- a pawn.
