"Singing David to Sleep"
Singing David to Sleep
“Who’s there?”
Sweet Jesus, little buddy, know that if I can I am.
And all the while, here's the clamorous din of time;
Staccato—uncompromising—so I chant thus:
You, my precious excelsior child,
Will shine
like an arcing hymn of vesper light.
And patron among scattered blocks and newborn night I wonder
Will I sing still,
in your poems?
