Helping a friend with a streaming pc. Looking for a second opinion.

Build Help

This is the list of computer parts I've compiled so far. I'm looking to r/buildapc for any alterations I need to make. I'm fairly certain it's an okay build but it never hurts to have a once-over by the community. My main concern is the case.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/VJFT4D

For reference his budget is $1k max. He already has his peripherals and a hard drive. He intends to stream Trove, a couple MOBAs, and First Person Shooters. Not including the other 3 he plays a lot of racing games. He's not a AAA games kind of guy more of an indie gamer. The most demanding game he has in his library is Dirt Rally I gave him a year ago and he couldn't play because of his current setup (Celeron processor/ HD3000 grapics laptop).

He might not have a web cam so if anyone could suggest a decent one I'll probably pick that up for him.

I'll take the build into heavy consideration. Thank you for the suggestion.

You can use QuickSync like u/T-Shirt_Ninja suggested, or you can use AMD VCE. My friend has a comparison between the two.

QuickSync

VCE

I've looked at both. They each seem to run into so problems. Quick Sync is slightly more taxing on the chip and the sound is off while VCE is less rough but with more latency. At least that's what I see in the videos. You have more experience than me with the two. With the criteria being performance over user friendliness which would you recommend of the two?

I do not actually use either. I have an FX-8350, which is my beefy streaming CPU.

Depends on what he wants to use to stream. If he really wants to get the maximum possible visual quality for the stream at the cost of a little bit of GPU performance, then I would say go with your build. The build u/HowManySmall posted is better in the sense that it has a more powerful GPU and will therefore allow higher graphics settings in the game, but stream quality may suffer a bit as your friend will need to use hardware encoding (probably using the iGPU on the 6600k with Quick Sync) instead of x264 encoding due to the weaker multithreaded performance of the i5.

Personally, I prefer u/HowManySmall's build as I'm quite happy using Quick Sync for streaming and I like having higher settings and better framerates for myself.

He's also new to computers and soon to be streaming. He doesn't care for Ultra quality graphics. He's able to run Trove and MOBAs on his laptop on the lowest settings and not minding. He is more of an indie gamer and what he plays isn't graphically intense so I think he would be content with high settings. Even considering all these things I'll have to present him with the I5 option as well. It's his build after all. Thanks you for the advice. Much appreciated.

Well, that would also open up the option of just getting the i5 and the r9 380 and saving some money! Or maybe spending some of the extra to get a 500gb SSD, as 240gb can disappear surprisingly quickly.

That's actually not a bad idea. I'll tell him and see what he thinks.
