Can we please take a moment to discuss how absurd Boldur is?
I just picked him up the other day to help a friend with Thorn's lore. Now I feel embarrassed for ever having played another melee class. People are losing their shit over Galilea, and I'm just running around roflstomping her. Boldur has great damage (especially if you triple gear for attack speed like I do), incredible tankiness, amazing escape ability (30% movement speed after hurling your axe), long range knockback that is consistently a stun once you get good at positioning, and an incredible and underrated ultimate (I'll get to that later).
Like I said I only picked him up recently, I don't claim to be a master by any means. But here's what I've been working with so far and I routinely have great finishes (with or without Miko/Reyna support).
I'll keep this as brief as possible because no one wants to read an insanely long and repetitive guide.
LEVEL 1
Choose Crash Helmet (Right). Don't think, just do it. I tried going left at first because of how useful Galilea's shield bounce back is, but for this build Boldur is literally better without his axe. You wanna be chucking that thing away whenever you're able to for the movement speed and level 3 augmentation bonus. The overshield is really helpful anyways.
LEVEL 2
Aegis of Anger (Left). Enrages you upon Boldurdash activation. You want to be enraged as much as possible. Not only does it increase your swing speed by 20%, you get a whopping 35% damage reduction.
LEVEL 3
Stunning Blows (Left). This is preference because I play a very aggressive Boldur. Chucking your axe will give you movement speed to catch up to the enemy, and your fisticuffs will slow them so you can finish the job. Deft defender is pretty fantastic as well though just because the ability to sprint while blocking gives you a huge advantage when trying to run down ranged characters. Personal playstyle preference here.
LEVEL 4
Hatchet Man (Left). The axe toss slow is pretty unnecessary with your movement speed buffs + unarmed slows. Plus, when you ultimate the bleed affect applies to all targets hit by your exploding axe toss. Great for minion clearing and bunched up Incursion fights.
LEVEL 5
Desperate Rage (middle). If you don't have it unlocked, Berserker Rage (right). You tend to be enraged fairly often with the level 2 augment and the extra 15% damage reduction is just stupid. The movement speed is redundant so go for regen til you unlock the augment.
LEVEL 6
Axterminator (Left) for Capture and Meltdown, Salt the Wound (middle) if Incursion. The raw damage is great since it applies to your ultimate charged axe throw as well. In Incursion I take the 15% damage debuff to help the team with sentry damage and to burst down enemy supports.
LEVEL 7
Wildblood (Left). Just a raw 18% increase to melee attacks. The extra 7 health regen from the other option is barely noticeable by comparison.
LEVEL 8
Impatience (Right). Boldurdash is critical to his DPS as well as survivability, you want that cooldown reduction.
LEVEL 9
I take Death and Axes (Left) because you can use one runic charged explosive axe on a group of minions and get an extra THOUSAND health until you die (which you won't).
LEVEL 10
Axe Mastery if you took the above perk. Turns you into a certified death dealing machine if you can keep your health reasonably high. If you don't have a healer take the mutation. You can gain a disgusting amount of health.
Boldurdash- Good range and knocks them back crazy far. Get used to your dash range and the knockback range, and you'll be able to very reliably turn this into a potent stun. You don't lose many engagements when your opponent is stunned by this.
Axe Toss- Solid damage, not that exciting on it's own. Use it liberally once you take the level 3 augment so you can slow the crap out of fleeing enemies. Run all you want Galilea, you're gonna die bitch!...
Runes of Power- The early game with Boldur can be rough, with a lot of tactical retreats if you don't have a good support helping you. This changes at level 5. How this skill is on a 30 second cooldown is BEYOND me. Hit this thing on cooldown always unless you still have runes up from the last one. The recharge starts as soon as you use it, NOT as soon as you use the runes. Your axe toss becomes an insane explosive powerhouse. Blocking damage when they're whole team tries to kill you literally heals you. Such an absurd ultimate, and if I'm being honest it should probably be nerfed so that the cooldown timer doesn't start till you've used the runes.
GEAR
I go full offense with the gear. Can't remember the names of everything but it's all cheap green stuff. One is a gauntlet that gives 9% Attack damage and 5% attack speed after landing a melee hit. The next is 6% Skill damage and 5% attack speed on melee hit. The last is 9% attack speed and some other shit I don't care about (90 shield I think). Costs about 1300 shards for a full activation of all 3, and the DPS increase is phenomenal.
That's about all I have to say for now just wanted to share the build and spread the word that Boldur is amazing. That is all.
