Respect the Sandman: Marvel 616
The story of Sandman’s childhood is muddled from many retellings, but whatever the case, he began as a youth named William Baker who took to calling himself Flint Marko once he began his criminal life. This was so that family wouldn’t know about his criminal activities. Eventually, he ran into a nuclear waste site. The irradiated sand fused with his body, and Flint became the powerful Sandman. He took to easy crime, but eventually joined many villainous teams, the Sinister Six and Frightful Four among them. He took on a costume which let him add chemicals to his sand, but this was temporary and he later lost it. Eventually, he reformed and joined Silver Sable’s Wild Pack. However, this heroic stint was ended by the Wizard meddling with Flint’s mind, turning him malicious again.
Sandman then ran into a girl he took to be an adopted daughter, named Keemia. However, it turned out that he had accidentally killed her parents. Sandman since then has been tipping back and forth on the evil and heroic axis quite often.
Sandman is generally one of the Spider-Man and Fantastic Four rogues considered to be the best morally, and he has reformed many times. But he has never managed to make it stick, usually due to outside influences.
Durability
Sandman is known for letting attacks go through him, but he also has some raw durability too
Sand Manipulation
Sandman’s powers all derive from his ability to manipulate sand, but he can do more than make himself strong or durable with them. So long as a queen grain of sand is intact, he can control himself perfectly.
-
He quickly deactivates a vibro-shock device before it can hurt him
-
He traps Mr. Fantastic in his body and laughs off his punches
-
He makes hammers, sand blasts, and spreads himself on the floor too
-
He makes a cylinder to trap the Human Torch, wraps up Mr. Fantastic, and more sand hammers
-
Goes inside of a man’s holes and then transforms his sand to clothes
-
Spider-Man compares his shifting ability to Mr. Fantastic’s. Also he can leap down softly
Strength
Sandman has great power behind his blows and can further enhance this through sand weapons
-
Invisible Woman has trouble holding him with her force fields
-
His grip is strong enough to keep the Wizard from making him fly away
Speed
Sandman isn’t very fast, but the way he extends his sand is quick enough to sometimes get smacks into things.
