How do you choose what game to make?
I'm stuck in a state of analysis paralysis. I have several game ideas that I find interesting, but I find it hard to pick one to develop.
One of the ideas is more appealing to me and I have made progress brainstorming it, but my biggest fear is that it might not be popular. I've been making indie games as a hobby so I never had to care what others thought, but now I want to make a living with it and it seems like a good idea to consider if people would buy it.
My game idea doesn't have combat or violence (if you look at the current Steam top sellers, there's only 1 game without those) and I'm wondering if I should just do something more generic instead. A game with a fighting protagonist. It's not what I really like, but it seems to be what people want, right?
So, how do you choose? Is it possible to do whatever the hell you want and be successful, or do you have to make what people are buying? Does that even work, or would you feel bitter and quit if you try to please others and not yourself?
