When can I expect to hear back for a Fall 2016 intern position?

Just finished my first year and currently doing summer courses. I had a couple basic projects on my resume so I decided to apply for the fall 2016 intern position and A Thinking Ape. I probably will be doing coop next spring but I felt like trying my luck anyways. What are the chances they hire a non coop student over a coop student if both go to the same university? Also how long does it usually take for start ups to respond to an application? Thanks!
