Bullied by bipolar prejudiced supervisor

Everything I'm about to say is true. Small changes to the story so that I can't be identified.

I work at a large company and cater to various clients. The top of the administration has some very nice people. Very just and ethical but overall, this place runs like most places. Full of seniority status and bureaucracy which can hinder quality work that workers like myself wish to provide for our clients. About 6 months ago, I was assigned to a client who came from a pretty disadvantaged background and had some serious issues I had to help sort out. We usually need a supervisor on top of our case to oversee everything and they're usually ones calling shots.

The data and info gathering took a long time. Tons of phone calls. Finally by around Feb this year, I was able to start getting her file together. The supervisor I was working under has unparalleled mood swings but since she has been with the company since the beginning, she has a lot of seniority status and thinks everything she does is right. My client doesn't care for her much and neither do I, but all I care about is what's good for my client.

I finally needed a stamp for her her files to go through and this is when my supervisor decided to flip, after I spent about 4 months of gathering data for my client. She said that she didn't want to deal with it and that we have an evaluation coming up and she had no desire of putting on such a low profile client who is poor, disadvantaged and pathetic on her report and didn't want to discuss her case at the supervisor evaluation. This is all done verbally. I have no recordings of any of this. I was absolutely furious. She told me to put off my client's case until after the evaluation which is at least 6 weeks later. Meanwhile, I KNOW that she's taken on plenty more cases with "higher" profile cases i.e. clients had money, more "interesting" cases to deal with. I was pissed beyond my mind for my patient. My supervisor was spewing all this crap about how poor my client was and how beneath her all this was. My client paid her payment in full and has no balance on her account and is a very reliable client. I didn't care how unimportant her case was. After my supervisor's ridiculously discriminating rampage where there were other workers like myself passing by with other clients, I felt extremely upset and uncomfortable that she felt that it was OK to disclose my client's case information in a public place.

I went to the bathroom and bawled my eyes out for about 15 minutes because I felt so shitty for my patient and gathered myself. I went up to human resources and talked about it with a client manager who does advocacy for our clients. She was also very furious when she heard about my supervisor's outburst. She went to meet with the higher ups and one of the higher ups told me he would stamp my file for it to go through, so everything for my client's case started rolling which I assured my client who was very thankful.

This is when shit hit the fan. My supervisor was summoned to a disciplinary hearing. Then the next day, she pulled me from my office and shoved me into a janitor's closet and locked the door. She said "I've dealt with more of those types of low lifes (regarding my client) than you can imagine. Don't you dare go around spreading shit about me. You need to write up a statement to the higher-ups and tell them that you lied about me and made up everything." I was NOT going to write up ANYTHING that can be used against me so I went to human resources and talked to the case manager again. She was so pissed she stormed out of the room and talked to the higher ups and my supervisor was at another disciplinary hearing. The higher up who stamped my case called me to his office and said that the decision is that my supervisor is not to come near me or instigate anything and that my case will be handed over to another supervisor.

Problem is that we're in this company that runs on bureaucracy and she has friends in the company. I've been keeping it peaceful and walking the high road by keeping my mouth shut, dealing with the traumatic anxiety of being shoved into a janitor's closet and being on the receiving end of her horrifyingly bipolar explosive rage. I can honestly say I haven't slept well in weeks.

I haven't dealt with her in a few weeks and I can finally sleep again. Everything's still going smoothly with my client. A few days ago, one of the senior supervisors from another building said "you've been assigned to my unit now." He didn't mention why but I'm 90% sure it has something to do with my previous supervisor. Apparently she's been fighting and gnashing her teeth to get me fired, but workers like myself actually come from very rigorous training. We may be the worker bees but it's close to impossible to replace us easily so the company loses a lot by firing one of us. I think that's why my asshole supervisor is still here since she's been here for decades now and many of the higher ups were working under her at some point.

I haven't heard anything from the higher ups and no one told me I was in any kind of trouble. I don't know if I was transferred to another building to be protected form my previous supervisor or is this some sort of punishment so that I can be "watched" by a senior supervisor. I really don't know how far this will go. I thought about taking legal actions but I can't really afford to lose this job on a nasty note and I actually really really enjoy what I do. I have about a year and half left on my contract then I have enough under my belt to apply to a much bigger company. I'm well liked here but I would like to smoothly finish my contract and move onto bigger and better things without any of this freaking mess again.

I just don't know how far she's going to take it. I hope that she will drop all this shit now that she won't see me around the same building anymore. I know she's been talking smack among her peer supervisors and I just don't want to suffer any more retaliation. I don't know who's friends with her or how far she can take it. Do you think I'm in a safer place now?

Any advice or thoughts are welcome.
