Music scene in Memphis

Hey all! New to the sub here and will also be new to your lovely city come July. Just graduated and will be going to pharmacy school at UT Health Science Center. I'm really into music and love going to concerts and I was wondering what the music scene is like? What are good venues that get good bands? What other surrounding towns get good live music?

As of right now, I am not the biggest blues fan (although that will probably change in the coming year). I know there is Beale Street which has live music at just about every bar down there, but I'm looking more for venues that put on actual concerts. I have an app on my phone that shows concerts in specified areas. I set it to Memphis to check it out, but I did not get much information from it. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
