Witnessed a gnarly take down of a patient in the ER. Wondering how orthodox it was.

I was working a half shift in the ER as a pca (usually work in tele) on a 1:1 for a young kid who was withdrawing from drugs. Kid got up out of his "quiet room" and starting walking away. I followed while a regular ER aid then came up to him and shoved him back towards his room. The kid then suddenly sprinted to the side and the aid and I then ran after him. The aid tackled him to literally to the ground and restrained him with a bear hug and brought him back to his room where he was promptly medicated by his nurse.

I'm wondering how viable this strategy was. I just don't know if I should personally do this in the future if I come across a similar scenario. What if the kid hit his head on the ground and ended up having a concussion or worse tbi? Wouldn't it have been better if we had just let him run away? For some added context, he had just tried to assault a pregnant psychologist directly before this happened (unbeknownst to me at the time and to the aid as well).
