One week down, again.

8 days, and this time feels different. Typing that out feels like a cliche because it's the same sentence I would tell my parents when I was a teen trying to quit heroin, and I would be lying. Now I live on the opposite side of the world from any family, and haven't done heroin in a long time, but struggle with alcohol. I've managed to get 7 days a total of three times in the last six months, but this is the first time making 8. I'm optimistic, and finally understanding two things that have gone in one ear and out the other for years. Firstly, that I have to be sober for myself, not anyone else. Secondly, one day at a time isn't just an empty phrase, it's the only thing that works for me. Thanks for listening to me stopdrinking, and thanks for all the experience, strength, and hope you share with me on a daily basis. I live on a small tropical island and there is almost no recovery community here, so this sub and online meetings are all I have. I'm not going to drink today.
