DICE's new Battlefront game could still be good even if it is focused primarily on The Force Awakens IF...
Like many people that I've seen on this subreddit, I'm upset that we're getting a new battlefront game so soon. If it was based on the clone wars I would be excited, but since it seems to be based on the sequels (and with its time frame of coming out probably mostly just based on The Force Awakens with episode VIII DLC), and this makes me worried that the new battlefront game could suffer from the same problem the current one has- not enough content. But after thinking about it, I thought of several things the game should and/or needs to have in order to be a good game while still focusing on episode VII.

A single player campaign mode:
This was something that I saw many people, myself included, thought was one of the biggest problems with DICE's current battlefront. Battlefront needs a fun single player campaign mode that will help keep players coming back to the game and provide a great single player (or maybe even co-op) experience. It doesn't even need to be heavily story-oriented- I'm fine with just getting a series of instant action games in a series that provide a narrative like the original Battlefront 2. Maybe they didn't include this in the current Battlefront because of the lackluster number of maps, but that sort of leads into my next point... -
Maps should not just be restricted to places directly from the movie:
The game will more than likely be focused on the sequels, particularly The Force Awakens, so don't expect to see places like Tatooine, Hoth, or Naboo. The problem with this is that we only really see two battles between the Resistance and the First Order- on Takodana and on Starkiller Base. Jakku of course would also be included, but that's only three worlds. The new battlefront needs maps beyond the movie- Sullust in the current battlefront is the best example of this. Places that we've only heard of previously or only have seen a little of would be great to have in a new battlefront, and would help thicken out the list of maps the game would have. Because this is a major problem with the current game- too few maps, and a new game just based on The Force Awakens could easily have this same problem. DICE needs to include as many maps as they can, and if the new game only has as many maps as the current one I might not buy it, and I think other players feel the same way. -
Don't wait to include content from Episode VIII:
The next game will probably be coming out soon before Episode VIII, like how the current battlefront came out soon before Episode VII. And like with the current battlefront's Jakku content, I think the next game should include content from Episode VIII for free. I personally think that some Episode VIII content should come with the base game, but I would be fine if it was the same deal as the Jakku maps. This would also be one way they could thicken the roster of maps, and I desperately hope they don't wait until the season pass to include Episode VIII content, but I think it is inevitable that some of it will be DLC. -
A completely revamped fighter squadron mode:
It's pretty bad that the fighter squadron mode and all air battles just feel so lackluster. The flight controls of the ships are not very good, and this is especially bad considering other Star Wars games like Rogue Squadron have done a much better job with the flight controls. I think that the way ships and fighter squadron works needs to be completely changed in the next game. We should have our own fully customizable X-Wing and Tie Fighter, where we can optimize its stats for our liking, and have its own star cards and traits. When someone gets a ship pick-up, it should be different than just the regular AT-ST or AT-AT power-up, as you would be getting in your own personalized ship. As The Force Awakens only has X-Wings and basic TIE Fighters, I would be pretty fine if these were the only ships if they were fully customizable. This would make Fighter Squadron much more interesting, as not everyone would be fighting with the same basic ships. Maneuvers should also be expanded upon, as the current d-pad system is pretty bad. -
More customization:
At first glance, the current battlefront might seem to have a lot of options as to how your character looks. But one quickly realizes that all you can really change is your character's gender and his or her face until rank 40, when you can finally get the cool customizations. I've played the game for almost 45 hours and I still haven't reached rank 40 (currently on rank 39), and it's just silly that one has to play the game that much to unlock the good player customizations. Also, the basic stormtroopers customizations are pretty much useless, as nobody in their right mind wants to play as a helmetless stormtrooper. It's understandable DICE if you want all of the players to be a certain color depending on the map, but that's not worth it in exchange for no customization. We should have the ability to customize our armor and outfits a lot more, and the alien species and better stormtroopers should start to be unlocked much earlier. More customization also applies to customizing ships, and while I don't see this as necessary, blaster customization would be great too. -
More game modes for both online and offline play:
This sort of speaks for itself- some of the modes in the current Battlefront I never really play, like Droid Run and Hero Hunt, so the amount of game modes is much more lackluster than they first appear to be. More online game modes like extraction should be introduced. Also, while a single player campaign would help improve the single player experience, more and better single player/co-op modes would be very great. Survival mode is ok, but the other current single player modes are pretty bad. True player bots would help improve the single player experience a lot, and I think they are necessary for the next game. -
Don't try to restrict the amount of content we are given in the base game:
Let's be real here- getting only 3 heroes and 3 villains in the base game was pretty lame. I'm glad that we are getting eight more through the season pass, but that's fifty dollars. We should have at the very least gotten another hero and villain in the base game (no Chewbacca? C'mon DICE). One of my biggest worries about the next Battlfront is that the heroes could turn out to just be Rey, Finn, and Poe and Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma, and General Hux. We really should get a lot more heroes and villains than that (I think at the very least we should get 6 and 6), but I worry that EA might try to hold off on releasing some heroes until the season pass comes out. The same goes for blasters, maps, and star cards, and really all parts of the game. The game we get should feel like the current battlefront with all of the dlc, not the original base game, which really did not have enough content for sixty dollars. DICE needs to go all out with this next game, or else people will just not want to buy it.
TL;DR: A Battlefront 2 based mainly on The Force Awakens could still be great with a better single player experience, an improved fighter squadron mode, and just as much content as possible in terms of maps, customization, blasters, modes, and everything else the game has.
