Help with grottos DQIX

How hard is it to find grottos with rank 12 monsters in? I had another save file with the hero being a lvl 78 paladin and had revocated once. I only ever found up to rank 9 monsters. Is there any way to predict what rank monsters will be in a grotto or how hard/ long it will be to find one?
