Microphone suggestions?

I really like using Google Voice to speak commands to my computer. I use the Easy Voice extension. Problem is my micrphone is rubbish and I practically have to hold it beside my face. My laptop in the bedroom seems to be able to hear me no problem even when I'm 6-8 feet away, but my pc mic in the main room needs an upgrade. Can anyone recommend a microhone that I can sit on the desk and it will be able to hear me properly?

(Sorry if this is the wrong place to post - let me know where is better if so)
