Any reason to keep brand compatibility?

Question

I am definitely wanting a 1080, and as of now, I have an Asus ROG Motherboard, and will most likely be using an Asus ROG Monitor. Outside of just being a bit OCD and wanting as many of my components to match, would there be any performance benefits to keeping brand compatibility? Also, I've seen rumors about a few brands, but haven't seen any about Asus, so have I missed these rumors, or are there just no leaks from them yet?
