[Meet Report] USPA local meet - 1736 lbs at 240 lbs bodyweight (787.5 kg at 109 kg bodyweight) - Raw w/wraps - 465 Wilks
Meet Date: May 8, 2016
Location: Vacaville, CA
Age: 28
Height: 5'9'' (175cm)
Weight: 240 lbs (109 kg)
Division: 242 lb (110 kg) Raw (w/ wraps)
Total: 1736.1 lbs (787.5 kg)
Wilks: 465
Preparation/Weigh-Ins:
I normally weigh about 260 lbs. Weigh ins were on Saturday morning (lifting was Sunday morning). The previous Saturday, I cut carbs out and was consuming 2500-3000 calories a day (~27% protein, 3% carbs, 70% fat). I then drank 2 gallons of water a day Monday and Tuesday, followed by a gallon Wednesday, half a gallon Thursday, and minimal Friday. There was also some sauna involved Friday. My body responded really well to the weight cut and I made weight at 240. I was able to recomp to about 258 by Saturday night.
Summary:
1736 lbs (787.5 kg) total at 240 lbs (109 kg) bodyweight; this was an 83 lb (37.5 kg) meet pr for me, and a USPA elite total.
Squat Attempts: 584 lbs, 611 lbs, 633 lbs All were good, with the 633 lbs being a 33 lb competition PR. I got a red light on my 584 opener because apparently my left knee wasn't fully locked out at the beginning of the lift.
Bench Press Attempts: 402 lbs, 424 lbs, 435 lbs (missed) The 424 lbs was a 22 lbs competition PR. For 435 lbs, I guess I was tired/not strong enough. I ran out of gas and couldn't get it up all the way.
Deadlift Attempts: 633 lbs, 677 lbs, 705 lbs (missed) The 677 lbs was a 27 lb competition PR. With the 677 lb attempt, I met my goal of 1736 lbs - an elite total in USPA! So I decided to take a big jump and try to join the 700+ lb club for my deadlift. I was surprised with how far it moved. But after a long, exhausting day of lifting I just didn't have it in me.
Overall, it was a really good, well run meet and I am really pleased to have met my goals! I qualified for USPA nationals. I wanted to do the drug tested nationals in mid July in Atlanta. I'm still thinking about it; I feel like the demographic for drug tested raw w/ wrap lifters is very small and not many people will compete. I need to make up my mind quickly!
