Idiocracy released in 2006?

My best friend in high school loved this movie, he talked about it all the time around 2002. We graduated in 2005 and I haven't seen him since. How the fuck is imdb showing it as a 2006 release? Anyone else remember the movie coming out in 2001 or 2002?
