Anyone else experience disappearing navies?

So my vassal and I were collaboratively assaulting an enemy space station when their (my vassals) fleet completely disappeared. Like, poof, just eradicated out of existence. Our fleets each were worth about 1k power and the station was only around 400 so I know they weren't destroyed. Could they have disbanded the fleet in the middle of battle for no reason?
