Why I've become a libertarian
For all of my life that I was politically aware Ive been a liberal. I've only been alive during the last 3 presidencies, but I started following pretty young, around 5th grade in the middle of Bush's second term. For the most part, I think it was because the Republican party came off as the most vile, deceitful group of people I've ever layed my eyes on. Their way of thinking was just completely opposite of mine. I mean, cutting social security and welfare, giant defense increases and occcupying more countries than I can count on my hands, trade agreements that end up outsourcing jobs, laws supporting discrimination, deporting all the illegal aliens, refusing to support gay marriage; Not to mention their constant touting of their religion (I was an aggresive atheist when I was younger). It just turned me off to them, so I alligned with my only other option, the democrats. Turns out, that was a bad decision.
The democrats are no better, they're just better at hiding their deceit. The current drone policy basically gives Obama authority to kill anyone as long as it follows some hazy guidelines. Its terrible. They like to spend too much money they dont have and keep minorities unequal just as much as anyone Republican (think housing projects, crack epidemic, crime bills, dependence on welfare).
I started doing research into 3rd parties after I learned about registering to vote from my dad around at around 15 from my dad. I was like, what the hell is an independent? I've considered myself one since then. I looked into other choices than the 2 parties because it peaked my interest.
When I earned my first paycheck, stopped agreeing with democrats. I like to consider myself pretty open minded, so when I really started thinking about what it would feel like for someone to steal 30% of my 30 million dollars, it made my nearly sick to my stomach. I thought about the hypocrisy of the Democrats. They constantly say they care about equality and then treat rich people differently because theyre living the American dream? If I dont want them to take mine, I dont want them to take anyone elses'. Also, why would I want laws to dictate the way other people live? Democrats legislate morality just as much as Republicans do. My democratic values were quickly falling apart before my very eyes.
Libertarians are the only true advocates of small government and of equality. This country was founded on libertarian principles and we need to return to that. The 2 party system has found a perfect way to pit this country's citizens against eachother. They make them closeminded against any belief not inheritent within their respective parties' values. They really are one in the same, authoritarian, just in different nature. Libertarianism just makes sense. It's really based on the golden rule, treat others how you want to be treated. Leave me the fuck alone, dont hurt me, dont rob me, and dont lie. It's the only logical way of running a country.
