Is secret Wars like Crisis on Infinite earths ?

I am new to marvel. I mostly read DC, I have read marvel books here and there but wanted to catch up on this event, Im couple issues in and the "multiverse" (which I didnt even know marvel had a multiverse , I thought it was just this one and ultimate) is being destroyed and earths are crushing together , so just curious if I should keep reading and how similar all this multiverse stuff is to DC
