How would you react to this situation?

I'm currently working through a CBT programme and wondered if anyone on r/anxiety would like to do an exercise with me. You have to compare your reaction to a situation with other people's. There's no right or wrong answer.

So here's the scenario: You're visiting home for the weekend and you decide to go for a run on the morning that you are leaving. You don't have a key, so you ask your mum/dad to let you back in. They have a memory problem and forget what you have asked. When you get back home they aren't in the house; they've popped out to get the paper. You have to wait 15 minutes until they come back, but of course as you are waiting you aren't sure how much time you will be on the doorstep for.

And here's how I responded..: INTERPRETATION: Mum doesn't ever listen to me and that's why this happened. This will inevitably lead to me missing my train. FEELINGS: Angry and v anxious about time BEHAVIOUR: When Mum gets back I stomp about the house getting ready and leave sooner than I actually need to.

Obviously upon reflection I can see where I went wrong - and I have since apologised! How would you have reacted?

Thanks guys. :o)
