My dad and I are in an argument...

The story is my dad and I are in an argument on the next car I get. Background info I already had 2 cars and 1 of them I ran into a ditch. He wants me to get a fwd automatic. I want a rwd or awd manual. I'm 17 and all of my past cars were autos. We have a budget of under $2000. He thinks that it is not a good idea for me to learn manual. I just want to hear some opinions on weather or not I should just get an auto and work for the summer to get a decent car or I should convince him some how to get me a manual. Also what car should I get?

Edit: the car I crashed was a 95 nissan maxima fwd. It was a wet day and the front tires slid.

Edit2: Im ok with a fwd and my dad is now ok with awd but not with manuals. btw hes 43.

Edit3: if you had no car and you could choose between a 2000 mustang automatic and a volvo 240 turbo manual which one would you choose?

Edit4: more on the maxima I was kinda speeding going 50 around a turn. I do take full responsibility for the crash but the car was able to drive home. I also haven't had a car in 3 months time

Edit5: got to stop making these. My dad just told me how he never used to wear setbelts and how he got alot of speeding tickets. He said that not only did he crash a mustang gt he also went 160 mph in a '76 trans am. So im geussing thats why he wants me to be safe as possible.

Edit6: Ok last edit. We have decided to comprise. I cant make him reason a manual so i decide to talk him into a awd. We are going to go look at a few subaru's and maybe a eagle talon. wish me luck.
