Help with split screen on pc

Hi all, I played with a mate, split screen using a controller today, and he was asking how to change class, change the color scheme and so on. The start button did nothing, either did the other small button.

He could choose a class at the start of a match, but not any other time, any clues. Oh, I changed the game pad layout in federal settings to lefty, and changer the color scheme, but these chances didn't happen on his screen, color scheme did change on mine. Thanks
