Garage sale strategy?

I see alot of people saying that you have to show up early but where I'm from (Canada) and maybe its specific to my area but very few sales start until 9 on the dot and if you try and show up early (7-730) Most people wont even be awake yet let alone taking stuff outside. So even if you go to one early say 8:30 by the time you start getting around to the others its regular hours and you havent got the jump on anyone.

Do you hit the areas right in your immediate proximity before making a beeline to the nearest community wide sale/church sale? Do you hit the community sale first and then come back? Do you target the areas with the biggest clusters of sales on your garage sale apps when you're determining where to go?
