Relationship advice about childfree

ADVICE

Hey everyone, I'd really appreciate your advice and hear your experience. Long story short, my boyfriend [24/m] and I [26/m] have been dating for 4 years, living together for 3. My boyfriend wants a couple kids when he's in his early 30s and I have honestly been undecided about the topic. We had a heart-to-heart a few months ago and he wanted to know if I truly wanted kids and I told him that I needed time to think it through.

We love eachother dearly but the whole child thing has been tearing me apart. I've been thinking about having kids everyday for the past few months and I've come to the conclusion that no, I don't want kids. It's selfish but I know r/childfree understands where I'm coming from with this. I cherish my freetime too much and having a peaceful and tranquil house to come home to after work is very important to me.

Also, I'm very career oriented and a bit of a workaholic, which is a whole other problem. However, I don't want to raise a child in an environment where one or both parents can't go to an extra-curricular activity because of work related meetings or late hours.

It's very painful to have to tell my boyfriend that I don't think I can continue this relationship. We are both in a very vulnerable point in our life/relationship and I'm afraid that he may want to continue being a couple for a while longer, but I really do not want to further prevent him from finding someone that has the same life values as he does. We're going through some other things at the moment as well, but this has really been tearing at me lately.
