Asking a girl out.

There's this girl I met recently through a friend. Now I don't know much about her besides a few things because we've only talked in a group once or twice. However I think its a refreshing change. My previous relationships bloomed from great friendships that transisted into a romantic relationship. Because of that, I have no experience actually approaching someone who I think is attractive and would like to take out. I'm actually dumbfounded. I'm regularly a shy person mostly and will admit that I am scared of rejection. But I think this could be something great. I think its the fact that I don't know anything about her as opposed to everything about her like in my previous relationships that excites me. Anyway, what's the take?
