Bringing your girlfriend to family gatherings

I wanted to ask people’s experiences in bringing their girlfriends/lovers into the family environment, i.e. holidays/reunions/occasional visits, etc., in the house of your parents or other relatives.

If you're not out to your family yet, this question probably does not apply to you. However, if they are OK with your lesbianism, as well as your bringing your girlfriend into the mix, how do things work out in the family environment, in general?

Also, an extension to my question is, how long do you stay in such a visit? I mean, you could go there for a few hours, then leave at the end of the day, vs. stay for the night (or multiple nights). If you stay for the night, do you feel something quite out of the ordinary for sleeping in a room (possibly your old bedroom) with another girl? One reason I ask this question is that an ex-girlfriend of mine was not the quietest person during sex, which would make me uncomfortable when there are familiar people sleeping in the next room (although she never truly understood that, as she had grown in an unusually free-spirited environment).
