Any mechanics looking for side work?

I'm in Midlothian and I'm having powersteering issues on my '06 mazdaspeed 6 that I'm having trouble even diagnosing. No PS pump noise, but sometimes works sometimes doesn't. Thinking I might need a PS fluid flush at least.

One shop said I needed to replace rack and pinion assembly (~1k+). One shop said that's not true and diagnosed it as needing to replace PS pump - I'm skeptical as the current pump has 10k miles on it (car has 60k). Previous pump made all the tell tale noises when turning of a failing pump.

I'm thinking I might have some clogging somewhere in the ps system, or pump failure, but not sure. I'd love to have a friendly mechanic I could trust that won't hose me.
